How technology and UI/UX ally for contemporary methods of sensitive once esoteric archives exhibition.
Client
Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation. A cultural institute for a national-heritage exhibition.
Brief
Develop an interactive screen-based experience that presents archived sketches, maps and postcards in an immersive, inclusive way. The challenge: enable visitors with diverse backgrounds to explore unfamiliar narratives and latent history, while navigating large volumes of data.
My Role & Process:
Conducted secondary research and industry benchmarking for interactive museum-installations.
Defined key user groups (age ranges, visitor types, demographics) and analysed pain points: unfamiliarity with content, complexity of information architecture.
Built a “problem tree” to map challenges such as “Unfamiliarity” and “Complexity” and transformed them into design goals (intuitive navigation, accessible interactivity).
Ideated and iterated: enabled brainstorming sessions with curators and stakeholders, ensuring alignment across hardware, software, and spatial constraints.
Developed prototypes of the interactive screen interface; tested internally with staff representing diverse user profiles before launch.
Outcome:
A thoughtfully designed interactive experience that bridges heritage and usability. Visitors can navigate rich archival content through a clear, engaging structure, regardless of their initial familiarity with the material. The project demonstrates how UX and product-design practices can elevate cultural spaces.
